New Passport Fees India 2026: If you're planning a trip abroad or are about to get a new passport, this news is important for you. The Indian government has made significant changes to passport-related fees. Under the new rules, obtaining a new passport, reissuing a passport, and receiving urgent services will now cost more than before. The revised fees will take effect on July 1, 2026.
How much will the fees increase?
The government has announced new fees under the Passport (Amendment) Rules, 2026. The fee for a 36-page standard passport and its reissue has been increased from ₹1,500 to ₹2,500. Furthermore, if you wish to obtain a passport through the Tatkal service, you will now have to pay ₹5,000, up from ₹3,500 previously.
There has also been a change in
Additionally, the fee for a 60-page passport has also been increased. It now costs ₹3,500 to obtain or reissue a new 60-page passport, up from ₹2,000 previously. The fee for the urgent service of a 60-page passport has been increased to ₹6,000. Changes have also been made to the fees for reissuing lost or damaged passports and for certain other passport-related services.
How much will it affect passengers?
If someone is spending 100,000 rupees or more on a foreign trip, the 1,000 or 2,000 rupee increase in passport fees may not seem like much. However, for families with multiple passport holders, this increase could be a significant burden.
Get it renewed on time.
If your passport is about to expire or its pages are almost full, don't wait until the last minute. Renewing your passport in time will not only reduce stress but also avoid the additional cost of urgent service. Keep in mind that many countries require a passport with a minimum validity of six months before issuing a visa.
In many cases, airlines may deny boarding for passports with shorter validity. Therefore, when planning a trip abroad, be sure to check your passport's expiration date first. If you travel abroad occasionally, a 36-page passport may be sufficient. However, for those who travel abroad frequently, a 60-page passport is a better option, as its larger number of pages reduces the need for frequent re-issuance.
