Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Granted 30-Day Parole Again

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the head of Dera Sacha Sauda, has once again been released from Rohtak’s Sunaria Jail after receiving a 30-day parole from state authorities. The controversial religious leader, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence in a sexual assault case involving two women followers, walked out of jail early Tuesday morning.

This marks the 16th temporary release granted to Ram Rahim since his conviction, reigniting political debate and public discussion over the repeated parole approvals given to the self-styled godman.

Released Early Morning From Sunaria Jail

According to reports, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was released from Sunaria Jail in Rohtak at around 6:34 AM. Security arrangements outside the prison reportedly remained normal during his release, with no extraordinary deployment visible at the site.

Confirming the development, his lawyer Jitendra Khurana stated that the parole was approved by the competent state authorities and would remain valid for 30 days.

During this parole period, Ram Rahim is expected to stay at the Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters in Sirsa.

Why Is Ram Rahim in Jail?

Ram Rahim was convicted in 2017 in a high-profile sexual assault case involving two women followers associated with the Dera Sacha Sauda organization. A special court sentenced him to 20 years in prison, a verdict that triggered large-scale violence and unrest in parts of Haryana and neighboring states at the time.

The case attracted national attention and became one of the most discussed criminal trials involving a religious leader in India.

Apart from the sexual assault conviction, Ram Rahim has also faced investigations and legal proceedings in multiple other cases over the years.

Repeated Parole Approvals Continue To Spark Debate

This is not the first time Ram Rahim has been granted temporary release from prison. His repeated paroles and furloughs in recent years have frequently triggered criticism from opposition parties, social activists, and sections of the public.

Critics often question why the Dera chief continues receiving repeated temporary releases despite the seriousness of the charges against him. Political opponents have also, at times, alleged that such releases coincide with politically sensitive periods, including elections in states where the Dera has a significant follower base.

However, state authorities have maintained that parole decisions are taken according to legal provisions and prison rules applicable to eligible inmates.

What Is the Difference Between Parole and Furlough?

Many people often confuse parole and furlough, although both are temporary releases granted under prison regulations.

Parole

Parole is usually granted under specific circumstances such as:

  • Family emergencies
  • Medical reasons
  • Social obligations
  • Good conduct considerations

It is often approved for a fixed duration and may include conditions on movement and activities.

Furlough

Furlough, on the other hand, is considered a periodic release aimed at helping prisoners maintain social ties and adjust psychologically during long-term imprisonment.

Both processes are governed by prison laws and state regulations.

Security and Political Concerns Resurface

Every temporary release of Ram Rahim has historically drawn strong reactions because of the massive following he continues to enjoy among supporters of Dera Sacha Sauda.

Authorities typically monitor such releases carefully due to concerns over crowd management, public order, and possible political implications. Previous paroles have often witnessed gatherings of followers and heightened media attention.

Opposition leaders and civil rights groups have repeatedly argued that frequent paroles for high-profile convicts can raise questions about fairness and equal application of prison policies.

Dera Sacha Sauda Maintains Strong Influence

Despite his imprisonment, Ram Rahim continues to hold significant influence among followers of Dera Sacha Sauda, especially in parts of Haryana, Punjab, and neighboring regions.

The organization has long maintained a strong social and political presence through its large support base. Political analysts often note that the Dera’s influence becomes particularly significant during election periods in North India.

This continuing influence is one reason why every parole granted to Ram Rahim attracts nationwide attention and political scrutiny.

Temporary Release Likely To Remain Under Observation

As Ram Rahim begins his 30-day parole period, authorities are expected to closely monitor activities surrounding his stay in Sirsa. Law enforcement agencies generally remain alert during such releases to prevent any law-and-order concerns.

Meanwhile, the latest parole has once again reopened public debate over prison privileges, legal procedures, and the treatment of high-profile convicts in India’s criminal justice system.
