China beats America in the matter of supercomputers, know how the dragon came ahead?

World's Fastest Supercomputer: China has surpassed the United States in terms of the fastest supercomputer. China's LineShine system, performing 2 quintillion calculations per second, has reached the top spot in the rankings.

World's Fastest Supercomputer: China's supercomputer ranks first in the ranking

World's Fastest Supercomputer: China has become the new king in the supercomputer race, surpassing the US. China has reached the first position in the ranking of the world's fastest supercomputer. This is the first time China has reached this top position since 2017. The LineShine supercomputer of the National Supercomputing Center in Shenzhen, China, has been ranked first in the global ranking called TOP500. For the past few years, the US was ahead in this matter, but China has now defeated it.

The LineShine system became the king by defeating this supercomputer.

In the new TOP500 ranking, LineShine has overtaken America's El Capitan to take the top spot. The El Capitan supercomputer is located at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory in the US and is used to develop and maintain America's nuclear weapons arsenal. This ranking comes at a time when the competition between the US and China over advanced computing is intensifying. On Monday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at giving the US an edge over China in quantum computing.

How fast is China's supercomputer?

According to reports, China's LineShine system can perform 2 quintillion calculations per second. This is 20 percent faster than the American supercomputer El Capitan. It is the only supercomputer to reach this level in the ranking. The system runs entirely on general-purpose central processing units (CPUs), which have fewer processing cores and cannot complete complex tasks at the speed of GPUs. Jack Dongarra, one of the organizers of the TOP500 ranking, said that with LineShine, China has demonstrated that it can remain ahead in advanced computing despite the US-imposed export ban. While the export ban may slow China's access to some components, it has also helped it find domestic alternatives.

How did China move ahead in this race?

Experts say that China, which has surpassed the US in the supercomputer race, is actually trying to draw global attention to its chip design efforts. China first topped the TOP500 rankings in 2010. After that, it continued to compete with the US and Japan until 2023, with the rankings fluctuating slightly. In 2023, China stopped submitting its systems for this ranking. Now, China has once again made a strong entry into the list.
