Telegram Ban: Following the Telegram ban, people are looking for alternative ways to access it. Consequently, there has been a sharp increase in both downloads and usage of VPNs in India.

VPN usage has increased rapidly after the Telegram ban.
Telegram Ban: After the temporary ban on Telegram in India, people are now looking for alternative ways to use it. This is indicated by the fact that there is a surge in the downloads and usage of VPNs in the country. Proton VPN says that after the ban on Telegram, the demand for VPNs has increased significantly in India. The company wrote on Instagram that hourly registrations in India increased by 150 percent on Tuesday and daily registrations increased by 120 percent on Wednesday. This shows that people are now resorting to VPNs to use Telegram.
First of all know why Telegram was banned?
The NEET Re-exam is scheduled to be held in the country on June 21st. To prevent further paper leaks, the government has banned Telegram until June 22nd. Additionally, orders have been issued to disable Telegram's message editing feature until June 30th. The government claims that this messaging platform is being used to leak question papers. In an affidavit filed in court, the government leveled serious allegations against Telegram, stating that the platform has become the new dark web and is being used for cybercrime.
Now people are busy downloading VPN.
Telegram is no longer accessible in India after being banned, but a VPN can be used to circumvent this. VPN masks a user's IP address, making it easier to access banned services. David Peterson, General Manager of Proton VPN, tweeted that VPN registrations have increased rapidly after the Telegram ban. However, Peterson's former account has now been blocked in India. Apart from VPN sign-ups, Google Trends also shows that people have been searching for terms like "telegram vpn" and "vpn for Telegram" for the past two days. This shows that people are now finding ways to access this banned platform.
How does VPN work?
A VPN, or Virtual Private Network, secures internet connections. It hides a user's real IP address. This means their geolocation is changed to the internet, and the VPN server's IP address appears instead of the user's. A VPN converts your online information into a coded form, making it difficult to hack.
