Andhra Pradesh News: Andhra Pradesh Police, with the help of Mumbai local police, arrested a youth from Girgaon on January 10, who is accused of conspiring to blackmail an Andhra Pradesh MP and extort Rs 70,000 from him.
He is accused of demanding money from the parliamentarian in exchange for not leaking RTI (Right to Information) data related to the alleged breach of trust. The accused has been identified as Vrishant Wadke. According to police, Wadke, along with four accomplices, conspired to extort ₹5 crore from the parliamentarian, who is still at large.
Allegations of blackmailing an MP on the basis of RTI information
According to the police, Wadke had allegedly obtained some information against the MP through RTI and was blackmailing him by demanding money from him in exchange for not sharing the information with central agencies.
After repeated phone calls, the MP agreed to send his personal assistant (PA) to Mayadukur in Andhra Pradesh. Wadke, meanwhile, sent his aide, Harsh Vardhan, there in August 2024.

Police said Harshvardhan and his associates allegedly robbed the MP of ₹70,000 at knifepoint during a meeting in Kadapa (YSR) district. Police are trying to apprehend another suspect in the case, and further investigations are underway.
The Andhra Pradesh police had registered a case against Vrishant Wadke and four of his associates under sections 308(5), 351(2), 127(2), and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code at the Madukur police station in August.
According to police officials, a team of Andhra Pradesh police arrived in Mumbai and, with the assistance of Mumbai's VP Road police station, arrested Vrishant Wadke on January 9. After completing all legal formalities, his formal arrest was recorded on January 10, and he was produced before the local court in Mydukur.
