Why Antibiotics Are Failing In Humans: Antibiotics are not having any effect on people, a surprising reason revealed in the study.

Antibiotic Resistance: In the past, if we had a problem, we would use antibiotics and get better. But that's not the case anymore. Let me explain why.

A study by SMS Medical College has raised serious concerns about antibiotics. The research revealed that the drugs are rapidly losing their effectiveness in infections caused by Acinetobacter bacteria.

The study examined 15 antibiotics commonly used to treat these infections. Surprisingly, bacteria showed resistance of more than 40 percent to 13 of these drugs, with one drug showing resistance rates as high as 78 percent.

Dr. Sunil Mahawar, nodal officer for infectious diseases at SMS Hospital, described the situation as extremely worrying. According to him, Acinetobacter infections are usually associated with serious illnesses.

According to doctors, this bacteria causes problems like wound infections, urine infections, and pneumonia. Trauma patients, those with urinary catheters, and those on ventilators are particularly at risk.

The study identified several reasons for the rise in antibiotic resistance. Purchasing antibiotics without a doctor's prescription, using them incorrectly, and prescribing antibiotics for viral illnesses were identified as major causes.

The research analyzed 1,766 cases of Acinetobacter infection. Doctors say that while these drugs haven't become completely ineffective, their effectiveness has declined significantly compared to before.

The study also revealed that bacteria showed strong resistance to many common antibiotics, while tigecycline and colistin were the only drugs to which no resistance was found. However, experts warned that if negligence continues, the situation could worsen.
