Abhishek Porel Arrest News: Star Indian cricketer Abhishek Porel, who plays for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), was arrested by police in Hooghly district on Tuesday (August 11). He was accused of having sex with a woman under the pretext of marriage.

According to news agency PTI, an official confirmed Porel's arrest. Abhishek is from West Bengal and also plays domestic cricket for Bengal.

A case was registered against the cricketer and a court order was issued for his arrest. Hooghly (Rural) Superintendent of Police Kunar Bhushan Singh said he was arrested late last night and will be produced in court today.

Mogra police arrested

Porel was arrested by the Mogra police late Monday night and is expected to be produced in a Chinsurah court on Tuesday. According to police sources, the cricketer has been booked under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Section 69, and provisions of the Information Technology Act.

Medical student filed a case

A medical student from Karnataka filed a complaint against Abhishek Porel at the Mogra police station on June 23. The woman stated that she and Abhishek had been in a relationship for approximately three and a half years and were planning to get married.

Following the complaint, the police began investigating the allegations. Police visited Abhishek's home in Chandannagar several times, but were unable to find Porel. Porel's family has not yet commented on the matter.

Abhishek Porel, who plays domestic cricket for Bengal, has played 32 first-class matches, 23 List A matches, and 61 T20 matches. He has also played in the IPL since 2023 and has played 35 matches in the tournament so far. He has scored 1,408 runs in first-class matches, 833 in List A matches, and 1,590 in T20 matches. Porel has scored 769 runs in 33 IPL innings.
