India won its 7th gold medal

India has won its seventh gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games. The Indian women's team defeated China 238-234 in the compound archery event to claim the gold. India's Chikita, Preetika, and Jyoti combined for a score of 238, breaking the world record in the compound archery team event, which was previously held by South Korea.

In the four-series gold medal match, India took the lead from the start. In the first set, the Indian team shot a perfect 60, while China managed a mere 58. From there, India maintained their lead until the end. Jyoti, Chikita, and Preetika shot tens on 22 of their 24 shots.

In the second series, India once again performed better, winning 59-58 and extending their overall lead to 3 points. This advantage came in handy in the third set, when China shot a perfect 60, but India managed a 59. The lead was reduced to just 2 points. By this time, the overall score was 178-176 in India's favor.

The conditions here meant that the Indian archers simply had to avoid mistakes. Jyoti, Preetika, and Chikita, despite the pressure in the final set, shot a perfect 60 to win the gold medal.

India created a world record

South Korea previously held the world record in the women's team compound archery event. South Korea set this record with a score of 238 in the final at the 2014 Asian Games. Now, India's women have equaled this world record. Jyoti, Preetika, and Chikita combined for a score of 238, scoring only twice outside of ten throughout the match.
