Bran in biscuits, detergent in milk? FSSAI cracks down on 3 companies

Questions have once again been raised about the quality of everyday food items. Food safety officials have uncovered numerous issues related to milk, biscuits, and raisins.

These cases include Dodla Dairy, Priyagold biscuit maker Surya Food & Agro, and Ueir Organic Foods. Action has been taken against the companies following deficiencies discovered during the investigation. Notices have also been sent to several other food businesses to comply with the regulations.

These deficiencies were found in the Priyagold biscuit factory.

During an inspection at Surya Food & Agro, the manufacturer of Priyagold biscuits, questions were raised about the ingredients being used. According to officials, the biscuits were being made using bran labeled as animal feed.

The inspection also revealed deficiencies in factory cleanliness, pest control, proper storage of raw materials, and employee hygiene. Consequently, the company's food license was suspended and legal action was also approved.

What came out in the investigation of Dodla Dairy milk?

A test of a sample of full-cream milk from Dodla Dairy raised serious questions about its quality. The initial test found the milk's fat content to be below the recommended standard. The sample was subsequently sent for further testing. A second test found the milk to be incompatible with safe consumption standards.

According to the report, the presence of detergent or caustic soda was also revealed in the milk. Permission has been given to proceed with legal action against the company in this matter.

Notices were also sent to three other businessmen

The Food Safety Authority has also issued notices to Narpadham Foods, Sun Regis Health Careers, and Shah Kantilal Jayantilal, citing deficiencies in hygiene, storage practices, insect control, and maintaining records.

Officials have asked the businesses concerned to respond to these deficiencies and ensure compliance with regulations. The purpose of such inspections is to monitor the quality of food sold in the market and ensure safe delivery of goods to the public.

The quality of organic raisins is also under scrutiny.

A sample of organic yellow raisins from Ueir Organic Foods was found to contain pesticide residues exceeding the permissible limit. Further testing also revealed concentrations of certain chemicals exceeding the prescribed standards. Legal action was subsequently approved in this case as well.
