WhatsApp Plus Subscription May Bring Paid Themes, Custom Icons, and Exclusive Stickers

WhatsApp Reportedly Testing a New Premium Subscription Plan

Popular messaging platform WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new optional subscription plan called WhatsApp Plus, which could introduce premium customization features for users.

According to reports and updates from WABetaInfo, the new subscription service is currently being tested in beta versions of the app. The plan may become available for both Android and iOS devices, offering additional personalization and chat management tools.

Importantly, WhatsApp has clarified that its core messaging services will remain free, including text messaging, voice calls, video calls, group chats, and media sharing. The Plus subscription would only unlock additional optional features.

Focus on Personalization and Customization

One of the main goals of the proposed WhatsApp Plus subscription is to give users more control over the look and feel of the app.

Under this premium plan, users may be able to:

  • Change app themes and color schemes
  • Customize the interface design
  • Choose from multiple new app icons
  • Adjust the overall appearance of the messaging interface

Reports suggest the company is currently testing around 14 new icon styles along with several color customization options. These features would allow users to personalize their WhatsApp experience in ways that are currently not available in the standard version.

Increased Chat Pin Limit for Premium Users

Another significant feature expected with WhatsApp Plus is an increase in the chat pin limit.

Currently, WhatsApp allows users to pin up to three chats at the top of their conversation list. However, the new subscription plan could raise this limit significantly.

Users who subscribe to WhatsApp Plus may be able to pin up to 20 chats, making it easier to keep important conversations easily accessible.

This change could particularly benefit users who rely heavily on WhatsApp for professional communication, family groups, or frequent contacts.

Exclusive Stickers and Notification Sounds

WhatsApp Plus may also introduce exclusive digital content for subscribers.

Potential premium features include:

  • Exclusive sticker packs available only to Plus users
  • Unique notification sounds and ringtones designed specifically for WhatsApp
  • Additional message reaction options to enhance interaction during chats

These sounds and alerts could be tailored specifically for WhatsApp notifications and calls, helping users distinguish them from alerts generated by other apps on their phones.

Still in Development and Testing Phase

At the moment, WhatsApp Plus is still in the development and testing stage, and the company has not announced an official launch date or subscription price.

The feature is currently being explored through beta versions of the app, meaning the final feature set could still change before release.

If launched, WhatsApp Plus is expected to be offered as an optional upgrade, allowing users to choose whether they want additional customization tools without affecting the free core services.

WhatsApp Continues Expanding Its Feature Set

WhatsApp has been actively introducing new features over the past few years, including improved privacy controls, multi-device support, enhanced group features, and new messaging tools.

The potential introduction of a subscription model could mark a shift toward offering premium personalization features while maintaining the app’s basic communication tools as free services.

If the plan moves forward, WhatsApp Plus could provide users with a new way to customize their messaging experience while supporting the platform’s ongoing development.
