Samsung users have been hoping for a change in the primary sensor of the Ultra model for several years now. There's speculation that the Galaxy S27 Ultra could address this issue.

Samsung Galaxy S27
Samsung recently launched the Galaxy S26 Ultra. While its camera features some upgrades, the wait for a significant upgrade is still ongoing. Samsung has been offering the same sensor in its primary camera for the past few years. While the optics and software are being improved, customers are still waiting for a change in the primary sensor. It's being speculated that Samsung may address this issue with the Galaxy S27 Ultra next year.
The primary camera will be upgraded in the Galaxy S27 Ultra
According to reports, Samsung will upgrade the primary camera sensor in the Galaxy S27 Ultra, which is expected to launch next year. According to Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, the company is working on a new, larger 1/1.12" sensor called the ISOCELL HPA. Its resolution will be 200MP. This sensor will support LOFIC, meaning it will be able to capture images with a wider dynamic range. Another tipster says that Samsung will use a modified ISOCELL HPA in the upcoming flagship device. It could be called the HP6.
Upgrades are essential to compete with Apple and Xiaomi.
The launch of the Samsung Galaxy S27 series is still a year away, but these leaks can be considered authentic. Indeed, to remain competitive, Samsung has found it necessary to upgrade its primary camera. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra, already launched globally, features a LOFIC sensor, and there are speculations that this technology could also be included in the iPhone 18 Pro models. Given this, it's believed Samsung won't ignore an upgrade to its primary camera this time around. Despite using a sensor that's years old, Samsung's cameras still receive high ratings, so the new upgrade will elevate the photography experience to another level.
