Shardiya Navratri 2025: Sharadiya Navratri begins on September 22, 2025. On the first day of Navratri, Ghata Sthapana is performed, requiring an earthen pot. Let's explore its significance.

Shardiya Navratri 2025: Navratri falling in the month of Ashwin is known as Sharadiya Navratri. This year, Sharadiya Navratri begins on Monday, September 22, 2025, and ends on October 1. The immersion of Goddess Durga will take place on Vijayadashami (Vijayadashami 2025) on October 2.
As soon as Navratri begins, people begin preparations. The nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped on different days of the nine-day Navratri festival. However, the first day is crucial.
On the first day of Navratri, Ghatasthapana or Kalash installation is performed. The puja begins only after the Kalash installation. Therefore, this ritual is considered important.
On the day of Ghatasthapana, a Kalash is installed. This Kalash remains in front of the idol or statue of Goddess Durga for the entire nine days. Astrologer Dr. Anish Vyas, Director of the Pal Balaji Astrology Institute, Jaipur-Jodhpur, explains that only a clay Kalash should be used for Ghatasthapana during Navratri. Let us understand the significance of the clay Kalash in Ghatasthapana.
Why only an earthen pot for Ghat Sthapana?
According to Astrologer Anish Vyas, since ancient times, the installation of a Kalash (urn) has been practiced during religious ceremonies, and clay pots have been used for this purpose. However, pots made of various metals, such as brass, steel, and copper, are also used.
However, a clay pot is considered the most pure and sacred for worship or religious rituals. Therefore, during Navratri, perform the installation of the Kalash using a clay pot during the auspicious time. This will please Goddess Bhagwati and ensure the fruitful results of your worship.
