Along with this, the soul of ancestors also gets peace. If ancestors do not get salvation, then they have to face Pitru Dosh. Apart from this, ancestors keep wandering in the ghost form. This is the reason why people perform pind daan for their ancestors during Pitru Paksha. Shradh of ancestors is performed on different dates of 15 days of Pitru Paksha. Where is Pinddaan performed for untimely dead ancestors

As soon as Pitru Paksha begins, people perform Pind Daan and Tarpan for their ancestors on the banks of the Falgu River in Gaya, Bihar. But let us tell you that the Shraddha of those who die before time or have an untimely death is not performed on the banks of the Falgu River. The Shraddha of such ancestors is performed on the Pretshila mountain located near Gaya. There is a altar on the peak of this mountain which is known as Pretshila altar. Here the Shraddha and Pind Daan of ancestors who died an untimely death is performed. But staying on this mountain after sunset is prohibited. Therefore, Pind Daan is performed here before evening.

How is Pinddaan performed for untimely dead ancestors

According to Garuda Purana, the souls of those who die prematurely or untimely do not get peace. But if their Pind Daan is performed on the Pretshila altar, then they get freedom from the ghost world. Pind Daan of ancestors who died prematurely or untimely is not performed with sesame or Kush etc. Pind Daan of such ancestors is performed with Sattu.

There are 15 dates in the Shraadh Paksha, which runs from Pratipada to Amavasya of the month of Ashwin. But the Shraadh Karma and Pinddaan of the ancestors who died an untimely death are performed on the Ashtami Tithi of the Krishna Paksha of the month of Ashwin.
