India Post GDS Recruitment 2026: Over 25,000 Vacancies for Class 10 Pass Candidates, No Written Test

India Post GDS Recruitment 2026: India Post has announced a major recruitment drive for candidates seeking government-sector employment after Class 10. Under the GDS Online Engagement Schedule-II, July 2026, more than 25,000 vacancies are expected to be filled across different postal circles and divisions in the country.

The recruitment covers posts such as Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak. One of the biggest highlights of the recruitment process is that there will be no written examination. Selection will be based on a system-generated merit list prepared using candidates' Class 10 marks.

Application Process Will Take Place in Two Stages

The application process will be conducted in two separate phases.

Candidates will first have to complete One Time Registration (OTR). According to the recruitment schedule, the OTR facility will open on August 31, 2026.

The second stage, which includes submission of the online application form and payment of the applicable fee, will begin on September 2, 2026 at 5 PM.

Eligible candidates will be able to submit their applications until September 21, 2026 at 5 PM.

Applicants should complete the registration and application process well before the deadline to avoid last-minute technical problems.

Class 10 Pass Candidates Are Eligible

Candidates applying for India Post GDS recruitment must have passed Class 10 from a recognised board.

They should have secured passing marks in both Mathematics and English in the Class 10 examination.

Another important eligibility requirement relates to the local language. Applicants should have studied the prescribed local language of the postal circle concerned at least up to the Class 10 level.

In addition, candidates are expected to have basic knowledge of computers and should know how to ride a bicycle.

Age Limit for India Post GDS Recruitment 2026

The minimum age required to apply for these vacancies is 18 years, while the upper age limit has been fixed at 40 years.

Age will be calculated with reference to the last date of application.

Candidates belonging to reserved categories will be eligible for relaxation in the upper age limit according to applicable recruitment rules.

Which Posts Will Be Filled?

The recruitment drive covers three main categories of GDS posts.

A Branch Postmaster is responsible for managing the functioning of the concerned branch post office and handling duties assigned to the position.

An Assistant Branch Postmaster supports the BPM and may perform tasks such as mail delivery, sale of stamps and stationery, and other postal work.

Candidates selected as Dak Sevaks may be assigned responsibilities related to mail and parcel handling, stamp sales and various operational duties at post offices.

The exact number of vacancies available in each postal circle and division will be displayed on the GDS Online Engagement portal. Candidates will also be able to select their preferred division and post while applying.

Selection Will Be Based on Class 10 Marks

India Post will not conduct a written examination for the GDS recruitment.

Instead, candidates will be shortlisted through a system-generated merit list based on Class 10 marks.

According to the recruitment details, marks will be calculated up to four decimal places while preparing the merit list.

Candidates who are shortlisted will have to appear for verification of their original documents. This will be followed by the required medical examination and other formalities before the appointment process is completed.

Application Fee for GDS Recruitment

The application fee has been fixed at ₹100 for candidates to whom the fee requirement applies.

However, women candidates, SC candidates, ST candidates, PwBD candidates and trans women candidates are exempt from paying the application fee.

Candidates should confirm the fee rules applicable to their category before making payment.
