Independence Day 2025: Independence Day is celebrated on 15 August. On this day in 1947, India got independence from British rule. Know what is real independence according to the Bhagavad Gita?

15 August 1947 is one of the most important days in the history of India. On this day the country got independence from British rule. Therefore, every year 15 August is celebrated as Independence Day (Independence Day 2025). This year in 2025, Indians will celebrate their 79th Independence Day.

Freedom means independence..but what is the real freedom in the true sense? In the Bhagavad Gita (Gita Gyan), Shri Krishna has explained the meaning of real freedom. Krishna says- We cannot call freedom merely the freedom from any bondage, but the real meaning of freedom is much more than this. The Bhagavad Gita tells us that real freedom does not come from external circumstances, but from the liberation of the mind and soul.

" Karmanyevadhikaraste ma phaleshu kadachan. Ma karmaphalheturbhurma te Sangostvakarmani."

(Geeta 2.47)

In the Gita, Krishna tells Arjuna - You only have the right to do your duty, not to reap its fruits. When we stop worrying about the results and follow the path of duty, then we become free from mental bondages. To be free from mental bondages is true freedom.

Ragadweshviyuktaistu vishayanindriyaishcharan. आत्मवाश्यार्विधेयत्मा प्रसादमाधिगच्छति॥"

(Gita 2.64)

Krishna says- Those who become free from love and hatred and learn to control their senses, attain inner peace and true freedom.

" Shraddhavan labhate gyanam tatparah sanyatendriyah. Gyanam labdhwa para shantimchirenadhigachchhati."

(Geeta 4.39)

According to Krishna - only a person with faith and restraint can achieve enlightenment and the person who achieves enlightenment gets ultimate peace and freedom.

" Mamupetya Punarjanma Dukhalayamashasvatam." ( Gita 8.15)

To be freed from the cycle of birth and death by attaining God is the ultimate freedom (moksha).
