LPG cylinder price today

Today's LPG gas cylinder price remains stable as of October 12, 2026. This means there has been no change in prices. Millions of Indian households use liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for cooking every day, so cylinder prices are a significant part of a household's monthly expenses. With several major festivals like Dussehra, Diwali, and Chhath Puja just around the corner, consumers are keeping an eye on whether cooking gas prices have increased in the meantime.

Why are domestic cylinder prices not increasing?

Retail cooking gas prices depend on global market conditions, import expenditure, current currency exchange rates, etc. Any losses incurred due to rising international crude oil or gas prices are compensated by government oil companies – IOCL, BPCL, and HPCL – from their own pockets, so that ordinary consumers are not burdened.

India imports a significant portion of its LPG needs, so changes in international energy prices and shipping costs can impact the cost of supplying cooking gas to the country. However, the decision on when and how much retail prices will change depends on oil marketing companies.

In India, the government runs several schemes to protect the interests of economically disadvantaged families. One such scheme is the Ujjwala Yojana. It is for those who cannot afford high-priced gas cylinders. Even a slight fluctuation in prices will force them back to wood and coal stoves, which are unhealthy. Therefore, the government subsidizes these and pays for the increased costs to ensure they are not affected.
