FASTag News: If you're among those who frequently travel on national highways, your journey is about to get more expensive. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has increased toll plaza rates on national highways and expressways, effective the fiscal year beginning April 1st. This means that starting next April 1st, you may have to loosen your purse strings a little more while traveling on these routes. It's worth noting that the average increase at toll plazas across the country is 4-5 percent.

How much will the toll increase on different routes?

  • Toll charges on routes like the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, National Highway 9, and Lucknow-Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh will increase by up to 5%. This will put an additional burden on commuters traveling from Delhi to Meerut or Lucknow to Kanpur.
  • Toll charges are also expected to increase on routes like Jaipur-Delhi, Jaipur-Ajmer, and Jaipur-Kishangarh in Rajasthan. It is reported that the toll for cars on the Jaipur-Kishangarh route will increase from ₹140 to ₹155. Meanwhile, those traveling long distances, such as from Delhi to Mumbai via Rajasthan, will have to pay an additional ₹5-₹15 per toll.
  • Tamil Nadu, a southern state in India, has more than 65 toll plazas. With the expected increase in toll charges from April 1st, travelers on the Chennai Bypass and the Chennai-Tirupati Highway will now have to pay more than before.
  • Tolls are also expected to increase by an average of 3-5% on the Bengaluru-Mysore and Bengaluru Airport Roads, which are heavy traffic routes.
