During an inspection at the Wai Wai Noodles manufacturing company, CG Foods India Private Limited, in Rupangarh, Ajmer, the FSSAI found numerous irregularities. The investigation revealed that broken noodles that had fallen on the floor were being picked up and reused to make bhujia.
These noodles were not even reheatable. FSSAI took action, confiscating over 32,107.2 kg of stock and initiating legal action against the company.
Two Bhujia products were being manufactured without a license.
Investigation revealed that Bhujia products named Wai Wai Mama and Wai Wai Mama Punte were being manufactured in the factory without the necessary license.
Why were the noodles that fell on the floor reused?
According to the investigation team, broken noodles that had fallen on the floor were being collected and reused to make bhujia. Significantly, these noodles were not being heat-treated again. Reusing food in this manner after it has been in contact with the floor raises serious questions about food safety.
Accused of putting an earlier date on the packet
Packaging irregularities were also found at the factory. According to the investigation team, earlier dates were being placed on the packages, raising questions about the discrepancy between the date displayed on the package and the actual production date.
Over 32,000 kg of stock seized
FSSAI seized a total of 32,107.2 kg of stock from the scene, including broken noodles stored in the open. Additionally, 1,925 cartons of expired finished goods were also seized.
Samples of oil and noodles were sent to the lab.
During the investigation, several samples were collected and sent to the lab. These include loose broken noodles, both Bhujia products, used oil from the frying line, and Wai Wai Ready-to-Eat Noodles. Only after the lab report will it be clear whether any food safety deficiencies were found in these products.
There are also deficiencies in cleanliness and records.
The inspection also revealed deficiencies in factory cleanliness and record-keeping. Pest control records were incomplete, and other deficiencies related to hygiene and food safety were also noted.
What is CG Foods?
CG Foods India is a Nepal-based company of the Chaudhary Group. The Wai Wai brand was launched in Kathmandu in 1984 and later came to India. In addition to noodles, the company also manufactures bhujia and other snacks.
FSSAI has initiated legal action against the food business operator. Further action will be determined based on the lab report of the samples collected during the investigation. There has been no immediate response from the company on this matter.
