Sharif Osman Hadi's funeral prayers were denied permission in Singapore, and his body was being brought to Bangladesh.

Bangladesh: The death of Bangladeshi student leader Sharif Osman Hadi has sparked violence in Dhaka. Meanwhile, the Singapore government has not permitted his funeral prayers.

Following the death of Bangladeshi student leader Sharif Osman Hadi, violence erupted in several areas of the capital, Dhaka, on Thursday. The unrest has continued since. Now, news has emerged that Hadi's funeral prayers in Singapore have been cancelled. According to the Bangladesh High Commission in Singapore, the first funeral prayers for Inquilab Manch spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi were scheduled to be held in Singapore, but the Singapore government denied permission. Consequently, the prayers have been cancelled. 

The Bangladesh High Commission issued a statement.

Hadi's first funeral prayer was scheduled to be held at Angullia Mosque in Singapore at 10 am. It was also learned that his body has been flown to Bangladesh. A statement issued by the High Commission said, "Osman Hadi passed away last night at Singapore General Hospital. His funeral prayer will not be held in Singapore because the authorities did not grant permission. The High Commission regrets this situation. We request Bangladeshi expatriates living in Singapore to respect Singapore's laws. We pray for the departed soul. We apologize for his loss from our respective countries."

Inquilab Manch issued a statement, stating that a commercial flight of Bangladesh Airlines will depart with Osman Hadi's body on Friday at 3:30 pm local time. The estimated landing time in Dhaka is 6:05 pm.  

Following Hadi's death, protests, vandalism, and arson were reported in several areas of

Dhaka, including Dhanmondi and Shahbag. Throughout the night, mobs attacked several locations in Dhaka, including the offices of two major Bangladeshi newspapers. The mobs also attacked several areas of the capital. 

Amid the violence, Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government, addressed the nation at 11:20 pm on Thursday. He appealed to the public to remain patient and not to pay heed to any inflammatory messages or rumours.
