A TMC leader has demanded an FIR against BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya for a social media post that he described as against communal harmony.

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and national in-charge of the party's IT cell, Amit Malviya, has once again found himself embroiled in controversy. A formal complaint has been filed against him at the Narendrapur police station in West Bengal. It is alleged that his social media posts could disrupt communal harmony in the state and pose a threat to India's sovereignty. The complaint was filed by Tanmoy Ghosh, state general secretary and spokesperson of the All India Trinamool Congress.
According to Tanmay Ghosh's complaint, Amit Malviya shared a post on the social media platform X on December 19th, the language and context of which are considered objectionable. The complaint claims that this post is not only provocative but also disrupts the peace and order of the state. The TMC leader alleges that this post directly targets the West Bengal government, the Trinamool Congress, and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Demand for legal action
The complaint urges the police to take strict action against Amit Malviya under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other relevant laws. Tanmoy Ghosh says such statements create fear and distrust in society, which should not be ignored.
What the police said
According to police sources, the Narendrapur police station has received and verified the complaint. No FIR has been registered in this case at this time. Police stated that the content of the social media post is being investigated, and further action will be decided only after the preliminary investigation.
Which post has created a ruckus?
In the X post that sparked controversy, Amit Malviya referred to an incident of vandalism in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. He wrote that an Islamic mob damaged Chhayanat Bhavan, a historic center of Bengali art and culture in Dhaka, which he described as a warning. He also stated that promoting extremism weakens society and that the situation in West Bengal is worsening under Mamata Banerjee's leadership. He also hinted that if this regime continues after 2026, the consequences could be far-reaching and irreversible.
