Raja Raghuvanshi Murder Case: It has been argued on behalf of Sonam that the entire case rests on circumstantial evidence, and the prosecution's claim is based on an alleged love affair.

Sonam Raghuvanshi's bail plea rejected
Sonam Raghuvanshi, the main accused in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, filed a bail petition in the Shillong court, which was rejected by the court. Sonam Raghuvanshi is currently lodged in the Shillong District Jail. She is accused of murdering her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi.
Sonam's bail plea stated that she was arrested in Indore on June 9, 2025. This arrest was based on an FIR filed on June 3, 2025, at the Sohra police station. The FIR was filed after the body of the deceased, Raja Raghuvanshi, was recovered. Since then, Sonam Raghuvanshi has been in jail continuously and has been in custody for over six months.
What was said in the bail plea?
Sonam's side has argued that the entire case rests on circumstantial evidence, and the prosecution's claim is based on an alleged love affair. The bail plea also states that Sonam was happy about her marriage and actively participated in wedding preparations, such as shopping and other arrangements. Consequently, no concrete motive for murder emerges. The defense also argues that mere suspicion, no matter how strong, cannot replace evidence.
Sonam Raghuvanshi told the court that the trial could be lengthy, as 180 documents and numerous pieces of evidence must be presented in the case. Her prolonged imprisonment is causing her mental stress and tarnishing her social image. Furthermore, she is a female accused, and the law provides for a lesser bail in cases involving women. However, despite these arguments, the court rejected her bail plea.
