Indigo Flight Crisis: A meeting was held today between Indigo officials and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). This meeting was called amid ongoing flight disruptions across the country.

In which cities were Indigo flights cancelled?
Due to new aviation safety regulations, the country's largest airline, IndiGo, is facing a crew shortage for the third consecutive day. This has severely impacted IndiGo's operations. According to news agency PTI, more than 300 IndiGo flights were cancelled on Thursday at more than 10 airports, including Delhi and Mumbai.
A meeting was held today, December 4, between IndiGo officials and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). This meeting was convened amid ongoing flight disruptions across the country.
120 flights cancelled in Bengaluru and Hyderabad:
A total of 95 IndiGo flights were cancelled at Delhi airport today. Of these, 48 were domestic and international flights departing from Delhi, and 47 were incoming. 86 flights were cancelled in Mumbai, 73 in Bengaluru, 64 in Hyderabad, 4 in Jaipur, and 3 in Indore.
On December 3rd, two out of every ten flights failed to take off on time. 1,700 flights were cancelled on Wednesday and 1,400 on Tuesday. This means that over 3,000 flights have been cancelled in the past two days. Major airports like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata witnessed crowded passengers and chaos. According to aviation sources, the total number of cancelled flights in the past three days has exceeded 600.
IndiGo operates 2,300 flights a day.
IndiGo Airlines operates approximately 2,300 domestic and international flights daily. This is almost double the number of flights operated by Air India in a day. On such a large scale, if even 10–20% of flights are delayed or cancelled, it means 200–400 flights are affected, causing significant difficulties for thousands of passengers. On Wednesday, more than 200 IndiGo flights were affected.
Talking about the on-time performance of flights, on December 3-
- Only 19.7% of Indigo flights are flying.
- Air India Express is operating the maximum number of flights at 69.9%.
- Air India (66.8%), Alliance Air (68%), SpiceJet (68.70%) and Akasa Air (67.5%).
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a notice demanding a response
to this operational failure, demanding a detailed response from IndiGo. The notice sought the reasons for cancelling such a large number of flights over three days. The DGCA stated that the airline was responsible for the inconvenience caused to passengers and was required to provide appropriate compensation.
IndiGo said the situation will return to normal by December 5.
The airline issued a statement on Wednesday saying that minor technical glitches, winter schedule changes, bad weather, slow aviation network, and new regulations related to crew shift charts have adversely affected operations. This was not possible to predict in advance. The situation will return to normal by December 5.
