Why Boredom Is Important: We all want to take some time out of our busy schedules to relax ourselves, sometimes by watching movies, sometimes by reading books, sometimes by cooking or meeting friends. But to be honest, hardly anyone takes time to do nothing or simply be bored. In today's fast-paced lifestyle, our minds are constantly occupied with something or the other, and social media is a major contributor to this. We end up scrolling or watching web series even in the little free time we have.

But experts believe that if you truly want to do something good for your mind and health, even a little boredom can prove beneficial. Dr. Jyotsna Bakshi, Senior Fellow and Psychologist at DIPAS, New Delhi, explains why we should allow ourselves to be bored sometimes and what positive effects it can have on the brain. According to Dr. Joshi, smartphones and constant use of social media are damaging our mental health, increasing stress, distracting attention, reducing creativity, and gradually leading to addiction.

If you give yourself some time by staying away from friends, responsibilities and phone for some time, then it improves your mood, your mind becomes more creative and your stress also reduces.

These are the benefits of being bored-

Getting rid of tech addiction

Smartphone addiction can make you restless, sometimes even hallucinating that your phone is ringing for no apparent reason. Excessive screen time can lead to depression, anxiety, poor sleep, and poor academic performance. Being a little bored promotes neuroplasticity, which is especially important for children and teens. So, if you have even five minutes, put your phone away and try something old-fashioned: draw, write, visualize, or simply relax with some music.

 Creativity increases

Don't think of boredom as a waste of time. It relaxes the mind and gives it room for new ideas. When you take a break from your gadgets, your mind becomes more open to learning and thinking, which boosts creativity.

Opportunity to discover new hobbies and interests

Boredom gives you time to reflect and discover new interests. When you're just by yourself during "me time," many new hobbies and talents emerge that you might otherwise miss in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The mind becomes calm and aware

Doing nothing is actually the beginning of peace and mindfulness. Focusing on the present moment improves sleep, balances emotions, and increases your positivity. It can also be helpful in weight loss efforts.

 Stress is reduced

Being bored gives the brain a chance to reset. When you break away from your routine for a while, mental fatigue is reduced and thinking is refreshed. This can lead to happiness, success, and improved mental health in the long run.
