To give Ola a tough competition, Ather will soon launch a new, affordable electric scooter, the EL01. Let's explore its design, range, and launch details.

Ather Energy is preparing to launch a new and affordable electric scooter in India soon. The company has filed a patent for its design, clearly indicating that this scooter could soon become a reality. This new scooter will be based on Ather's EL01 concept and is being designed with the budget of the average person in mind. Ather is taking this major step to compete with brands like Ola in the market.
New bet after the success of Rizta
- Ather has already gained significant recognition for its 450 series scooters. Following this, the company launched the Rizta scooter, designed for family use. Shortly after its launch, the Rizta became one of India's best-selling electric scooters. Now, Ather wants to build on that success with another affordable electric scooter, encouraging more people to switch to electric vehicles.
When can the Ather EL01 be launched?
- The Ather EL01 concept was first showcased at Ather Community Day 2025. At the same event, the company also unveiled its new EL platform. A launch date wasn't specified at the time, but now, with the design patents emerging, it's believed the EL01 could be the first scooter to be based on this new platform. It's expected to launch in 2026.
What will be special in the design
- The Ather EL01's design will largely resemble the Rizta, but it will be simplified and more affordable. It could feature an LED headlight, slim front LED DRLs, clean and sleek body panels, a single-piece seat, and a pillion backrest. In addition, indicators could be placed on the front apron. The concept model also showed a 7-inch screen that would display vital information to the rider. Overall, it could appear to be a cheaper and simpler version of the Rizta.
Battery and range expected.
- The Ather EL01 is expected to feature a battery pack under the floorboard. This new platform will support batteries ranging from 2 kWh to 5 kWh. Multiple battery options are expected, allowing customers to choose the scooter based on their needs. Its range on a single charge could be around 150 kilometers.
