A few days ago, the central government imposed limits on the purchase of petrol and diesel at private petrol and diesel companies' outlets across the country, which the government is now preparing to remove. The government has issued instructions to private oil companies to implement this. Petroleum Secretary Neeraj Mittal announced this on Thursday.

Private fuel companies like Reliance Industries and Nayara Energy have limited the sale of petrol and diesel at their petrol pumps, citing losses incurred by selling fuel below market prices.

What did the Petroleum Secretary say?
Speaking on this issue, the Petroleum Secretary stated that no company is permitted to impose such limits on fuel sales. The government will discuss this with the companies and ask them to remove the sales limits. He also stated that the crisis during the war has taught India that it should not rely solely on a single fuel for its energy needs. It is essential to increase the share of natural gas in the country's energy mix.

What did the Petroleum Minister say?
Due to the ongoing crisis in West Asia, petroleum companies are incurring losses selling petrol, diesel, and LPG cylinders. Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated that concerns about this crisis have not yet fully subsided in India. However, he added that the significant increase in energy prices has largely not impacted Indian consumers.

What is the sales limit?
Reports suggest that a customer can purchase a maximum of 50 liters of diesel per day at JioBP petrol pumps. Meanwhile, at Nayara Energy pumps, this limit varies from 70 to 200 liters.
