The supply of nuclear fuel to Bangladesh's Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant has been disrupted by Pakistan. Due to a lack of air clearance, Bangladesh has been unable to deliver uranium.

According to news agency ANI, Bangladesh's Science and Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam said that a cargo plane carrying uranium for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant was expected to arrive on September 24. However, the plane was denied permission to use Pakistani airspace. Consequently, the uranium could not reach Bangladesh on schedule.

The minister stated that the reason behind Pakistan's refusal
to grant airspace clearance is unclear. A new date has now been set for the uranium to arrive in Bangladesh. Russia has stated that it will arrive in Bangladesh in the first week of October.

All preparations were done.

Sheikh Mohammad Touhidul Islam, Joint Secretary of the Bangladesh Ministry of Science and Technology, also provided information on the matter. He stated that all preparations had been made at the airport for the arrival of the uranium in Bangladesh, and all officials were waiting for the plane.

A Rosatom liaison officer stated that the airspace was not clear, making the uranium shipment impossible and requiring a reschedule. However, the official did not specify which country had blocked the airspace.

Bangladesh is building a plant.

The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is Bangladesh's first nuclear power plant. It is being constructed using technology from Russia's State Atomic Energy Corporation, Rosatom, and is being monitored by the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission.

The plant in Bangladesh is being built in Ruppur village, on the banks of the Padma River, in Pakshi Union, Ishwardi Upazila, Pabna District. The project consists of two third-generation VVER-1200 reactor units. The two units will have a total baseload power generation capacity of 2,400 MW.
