Opportunity to earn from gold and silver next Dhanteras
The tradition of buying gold and silver on Dhanteras is an age-old tradition and is considered auspicious. Every year, a large number of people invest in these precious metals during this festival. This time, too, there's a lot of buzz surrounding their purchases, but it's not just due to tradition. In recent months, the prices of both precious metals have fallen significantly from their record highs. Therefore, market experts believe that long-term investors at current prices could benefit in the future.
Experts predict that gold and silver prices could rise by 15% to 35% by next Dhanteras. However, these are market estimates, not guaranteed returns.
How much has gold and silver become cheaper than its record level?
Currently, the price of gold is around ₹1.42 lakh per 10 grams. This is about 20% below its record high of around ₹1.80 lakh, reached in late January. Meanwhile, the price of silver has also fallen significantly from its previous highs. It has fallen from ₹4 lakh per kg in late January to around ₹1.87 lakh per kg.
However, a look at the data from last Dhanteras (2025) and the beginning of this year reveals a slightly different picture. According to current data, gold gained approximately 10% last Dhanteras. Silver, on the other hand, returned approximately 9.50% during this period. So far this year, gold prices have risen approximately 8%, while silver prices have declined approximately 18%.
What is the expectation of price rise?
According to Navneet Damani, Head of Commodity Research at Motilal Oswal Financial Services, the decline in gold prices could present a buying opportunity. He believes that global tensions, central bank purchases, and investment demand could support prices in the near future. However, inflation, crude oil prices, and the US Federal Reserve's interest rate decisions could keep the market volatile.
What are the targets for gold and silver?
Navneet Damani has suggested a buying range for gold around ₹1.41 lakh to ₹1.43 lakh per 10 grams. His 12-month target is ₹1.68 lakh. Meanwhile, he recommends buying silver in the range of ₹1.72 lakh to ₹1.75 lakh per kg, with a target of ₹2.55 lakh per kg.
