Semicon India 2026 marks the beginning of a major semiconductor technology event in India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the event at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi. Many of the world's leading companies, investors, researchers, startups, and technology experts are participating in this event, which runs from September 17th to 19th. More than 600 companies involved
More than 600 companies and 300 international companies are participating in Semicon India 2026. The event includes representatives from 52 countries, over 400 executives, and over 150 speakers. Approximately 50,000 visitors are expected. Along with companies, investors, researchers, startups, educational institutions, and students are also participating. Its main focus is to promote collaboration, investment, innovation, and development in India.
What did PM Modi say on the semiconductor sector?
Speaking about India's growing semiconductor sector during the inauguration of Semicon India 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that chips made in India are now reaching customers across the country and the world. He noted that commercial production has begun at two semiconductor plants in Mohali and Surat. PM Modi stated that India is focusing on the growth of fabless companies and the creation of new intellectual property. India will also need to advance in areas such as compound semiconductors, silicon photonics, and AI infrastructure.
Pavilions of six countries are also present
The event features six country pavilions from Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Singapore, and Sweden. In addition, there are 12 state pavilions, a startup pavilion, an innovation showcase, a student hackathon, and a workforce development pavilion. Companies such as ASML, Applied Materials, IBM Research, Micron, Tata Electronics, NXP, Lam Research, Tokyo Electron, and many others are also participating.
More powerful chips for AI
Semicon India 2026 saw a focus on more powerful and energy-efficient chip technology, driven by the growing need for AI. Applied Materials announced a $5 billion investment to advance the semiconductor ecosystem over the next decade as part of its India Vision 2035.
Chip Design Emphasis in Semicon 2.0
Semicon 2.0 aims to develop at least 200 startups and chip design companies in India. The focus will also be on technologies related to machines, materials, displays, memory, silicon, compounds, and logic, as well as advanced packaging.
New Technology from AI Edge to Robotics
Rashi Semiconductor Solutions showcased AI Edge Solutions, Industrial Automation, Robotics, Security Surveillance, and Memory Storage Solutions at Electronica India 2026. These technologies can be used in areas such as Smart Cities, Industrial Automation, Robotics, and Automobiles.
