Namibia created history in cricket

Namibia made history by defeating Ireland in the ODI series. The fifth and final match of the series was played on Sunday, November 1st. Namibia won by 5 wickets, not only winning the match but also securing the series 3-2. This is the first time in history that Namibia has won an ODI series against a Full Member nation.

In the final ODI on Sunday, Ireland failed to complete the full 50 overs, managing only 129 runs. In response, Namibia won the match and the series in 21.2 overs with five wickets remaining. Namibia had once held a 2-1 lead in the series after the first three matches.

It's worth noting that South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia will jointly host the 2027 ODI World Cup. This victory for Namibia will be a morale booster ahead of that.

Captain Gerhard Erasmus won the series.

Captain Gerhard Erasmus was the main contributor to Namibia's historic victory, scoring 263 runs in the series, including a century and a half-century. His batting average was impressive at 65.75. Jan Frylinck also performed well with the bat, scoring 224 runs.

On the other hand, Jack Bressel and JJ Smit proved to be game-changers in bowling. Bressel took 11 wickets in the series, and Smit took 10. Together, they tore apart the Irish batsmen. Smit took 4 wickets for 20 runs in the final, earning him the Player of the Match award for his performance. Erasmus, meanwhile, scored 263 runs and was named Player of the Series.

Ireland have already qualified for the 2027 ODI World Cup based on the ICC rankings. However, as hosts, Namibia will have to secure their qualification through the ICC World Cup Qualifier Play-off.
