Why is it important to complain on the TRAI DND app?

TRAI says that simply blocking a number on your phone does not stop spam calls at the source, as spammers take a new number and start calling again. Therefore, TRAI has issued an advisory and appealed to people to lodge complaints about spam calls and messages directly through the DND app so that this problem can be resolved. According to TRAI, based on user complaints, till now more than 21 lakh mobile numbers and about one lakh companies have been blacklisted which were involved in sending spam and fake messages. This proves that the more complaints you lodge, the more such fraud companies can be controlled.

In February 2026, TRAI launched a revamped and upgraded version of its DND app. TRAI Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti stated that this new version features a simpler interface, multilingual support, faster complaint filing, and improved complaint status tracking. Furthermore, users can file spam complaints directly from their call logs or message lists, significantly speeding up the process.
