Willie Walsh has over four decades of experience in the aviation sector. As CEO, he will be responsible for the airline's strategy, operations, network expansion, and commercial decisions. The new CEO will be responsible for driving IndiGo's international expansion and improving its operations.

Who is Willie Walsh?

Willie Walsh began his career as a pilot at Irish airline Aer Lingus. He later became CEO of the airline. He then led British Airways and then International Airlines Group. Before IndiGo, he was Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). His term ends on July 31, 2026.

When did you get the responsibility?

Willie Walsh is taking over IndiGo at a time when the airline has faced significant difficulties in recent months. In December 2025, new rules regarding pilot duty and rest periods came into effect, forcing IndiGo to cancel thousands of flights. Following this, the DGCA fined the airline and reduced its schedule.

Meanwhile, on March 10, 2026, then-CEO Peter Albers resigned, citing personal reasons. Following his departure, co-founder Rahul Bhatia has been managing the company on an interim basis.
