2027 ODI World Cup India: The 2027 ODI World Cup will be played between October 2 and 21 next year. Aakash Chopra has selected the top six players for the Indian team for the World Cup.

How will Team India be in the 2027 ODI World Cup?

India's squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup is almost half confirmed. Aakash Chopra has named the players who will play in the first six positions. He has excluded Rishabh Pant from his World Cup squad. Chopra believes that based on his form, Ishan Kishan may be preferred as a backup option for batting and wicketkeeping.

Former cricketer Aakash Chopra's selection isn't wrong, as the six batsmen he selected possess experience, skill, and a wealth of World Cup experience. Most importantly, all six players are in excellent form. He has assigned the top order to Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli.

Top Order - Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli

On his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said, "When I look at the batting order, there is no difference between 2023 and 2027. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, who were also in the 2023 team, will open. Both are in good form and I hope they will maintain that good form till the World Cup. Virat Kohli will be at No. 3 and I don't think his form will be a matter of debate for the next one year."

Looking ahead to the year 2026, Rohit, Virat, and Gill are all in the top 5 list of highest run-scorers in ODIs. Gill currently leads the pack. This form of the Indian team's top order is capable of destroying even the best bowling attacks.

Who is at four, five and six?

Aakash Chopra named Shreyas Iyer for the No. 4 spot. Iyer is undoubtedly one of the best middle-order batsmen in the world in the white-ball format right now. Iyer has scored 2,000 runs at No. 4 in ODIs at an average of over 47. KL Rahul will be responsible for the No. 5 slot, which will also be the first-choice wicketkeeper. Rahul's ODI average at No. 5 is 68.58. He has scored four centuries and 10 fifties at this position.

Hardik has never been seen in bad form.

Hardik Pandya is currently battling an injury and hasn't played any professional cricket since IPL 2026. His participation in the upcoming series against New Zealand seems unlikely. Nevertheless, Aakash Chopra believes Hardik will be the best option for the number 6 spot in the World Cup. Chopra stated that he has never seen Hardik in poor form, and that his performance at number 6 will be crucial.
