India's Gulveer Singh produced a personal best to win the silver medal in the 1500m race at the 2026 Asian Games on Monday (September 28). Also, female sprinter Vithya Ramaraj broke legendary PT Usha's 42-year-old record by winning the bronze medal in the 400m hurdles.

Gulveer finished the race in 3:36.72 minutes, a personal best. Kazuto Iizawa won the gold medal in the event. The bronze medal also went to Japan, won by Nagiya Mori. Gold medalist Kazuto finished the race in 3:36.35 minutes, while bronze medalist Nagiya finished in 3:37.92 minutes.

Gulveer's second medal

Earlier on Friday, Gulveer had won the silver medal in the men's 10,000 meters. The Indian runner completed the race in 28:29.38.

PT Usha's record broken.

Vithya completed the race in 54.75 seconds, a personal best. With this, she shattered PT Usha's 42-year-old national record. The legendary PT Usha had set the national record with a time of 55.42 seconds at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Now, Vithya Ramraj holds the record.

Mariam Karim of the United Arab Emirates won the gold medal by finishing first in the event, while Adelina James of Kazakhstan took silver by finishing second. Mariam finished the race in 54.31 seconds. Adelina took 54.58 seconds to complete the race.

Vithya Ramaraj's second medal

This was Vithya Ramaraj's second medal at the current Asian Games. Previously, she won a silver medal with the 4x400m mixed relay team. She continues to perform exceptionally well.

India's medal tally crosses 40

India's medal tally at the Asian Games has surpassed 40. India has already won four gold medals. Additionally, Indian athletes have also won silver and bronze medals. The total medal count stands at 41. With this, India ranks 12th in the tally.
