EPFO Portal Restored After Maintenance, but One Important Member Service Is Still Unavailable

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has resumed most of its online member services following a scheduled system migration and database integration exercise. Subscribers can once again log in to the EPFO Member Portal to access UAN-related services, update profile information, and use several online member facilities.

However, while the main portal is operational again, one key feature remains temporarily unavailable. The EPF Passbook service has not yet been fully restored, meaning members are still unable to view or download their provident fund passbooks through the dedicated passbook portal.

Member Login Services Are Back Online

After completing the planned technology upgrade, EPFO has reopened access to its member portal.

Subscribers can now:

  • Log in using their Universal Account Number (UAN)
  • Access profile management services
  • Update member details
  • Use various online EPFO member facilities

The restoration comes after several days of scheduled downtime that affected multiple digital services.

EPF Passbook Service Still Under Maintenance

Although the primary member portal has resumed operations, the EPF Passbook portal continues to display an "unavailable" status.

According to a notice displayed on the passbook website, system upgrade activities are still in progress. As a result, passbook viewing and downloading services remain temporarily suspended even though most other member and employer services have already been restored.

Members who wish to check their PF balance or download their passbook may need to wait until EPFO completes the remaining upgrade work.

Technology Upgrade Took Longer Than Initially Planned

The maintenance exercise was part of a major modernization initiative aimed at improving EPFO's digital infrastructure.

Initially, EPFO had informed users that the maintenance work would be completed by June 28, with online services expected to resume from June 29.

However, the organisation later extended the maintenance window by approximately five additional days to complete the migration and database integration process successfully.

Following the completion of the upgrade, most online services became available again from July 3.

Why Did EPFO Carry Out the System Migration?

The migration and database integration project has been undertaken to strengthen EPFO's digital ecosystem and improve service delivery.

The key objectives include:

  • Faster processing of EPF claims
  • Improved system stability and reliability
  • Enhanced cybersecurity and data protection
  • Better performance for members and employers
  • A more efficient digital service platform

By upgrading its technology infrastructure, EPFO aims to reduce processing delays and provide a smoother online experience for millions of subscribers across the country.

Members Waiting for Passbooks May Need More Time

While users can now access most portal functions, those waiting to verify their PF balance through the online passbook facility will have to wait until the dedicated service is fully restored.

EPFO has not yet announced an exact timeline for the complete restoration of the passbook portal.

Subscribers are advised to monitor official EPFO updates for further announcements regarding the availability of this feature.

New EPF Scheme 2026 Comes Into Effect

The restoration of online services coincides with another significant development for EPF subscribers.

Recently, the Ministry of Labour and Employment notified the Employees' Provident Fund Scheme, 2026, replacing the decades-old EPF Scheme, 1952.

The revised framework has been introduced as part of the implementation of the Code on Social Security, 2020.

The new scheme became effective from June 29, 2026, and introduces several regulatory and administrative changes designed to modernize India's provident fund system.

Key Focus Areas of the New Scheme

The updated EPF framework includes provisions intended to improve governance and simplify compliance.

Some of the broad areas covered under the new scheme include:

  • Updated rules relating to EPF membership
  • Revised provisions concerning PF contributions
  • Greater emphasis on digital compliance
  • Improved governance standards
  • Simplified administrative procedures
  • Enhanced use of technology in service delivery

These reforms are aimed at making EPFO services more transparent, efficient, and user-friendly for both employees and employers.

What Subscribers Should Do Now

Members can continue using the EPFO Member Portal for most routine services, including UAN-related activities and profile management.

However, those requiring access to their EPF passbook should be prepared for a temporary delay until the remaining system upgrade work is completed.

EPFO is expected to announce the restoration of the passbook facility once the ongoing maintenance activities are fully completed, allowing subscribers to resume normal access to their account statements.
