Do you buy food online more often? If so, how about seeing warning labels pre-installed on food delivery apps? This would be a good initiative. That's why consumers have demanded it. A recent survey found consumers demanding that food delivery apps display warning labels for foods high in salt or saturated fat.
What did the survey reveal?
Local Circles recently conducted a nationwide survey. This survey revealed that nearly eight out of nine consumers in India want to see warnings on products. This survey was conducted among domestic consumers in 328 districts across the country, and over 108,000 people responded.
Customers want warning labels.
In this survey, 89% of people said that warnings should be clearly visible on both the product listing and its detail page on e-commerce and quick-commerce platforms. Whereas 2% of people supported displaying warnings only on the product detail page. Thus, a total of 91% of consumers are in favor of online warnings. Only 7% said that providing warnings on the product packaging is sufficient.
Not only this, but nearly 80% of respondents surveyed said that if a packaged food contains too much sugar, salt, or saturated fat, it should have a warning from the very beginning. Meanwhile, 88% of consumers said that warnings should be large, clearly visible, and immediately visible to consumers. A similar number said that companies should implement these rules within six months of their implementation.
Why is this demand being raised?
For the past several days, FSSAI has been taking action against these app stores, revealing significant dirt and hygiene issues in their blacklist stores. Customers are now becoming increasingly aware of this. Customers believe that if such warnings are included in the apps themselves, they will think twice before purchasing or will not buy at all.
It's worth noting that the FSSAI is preparing to introduce a red hexagon warning label for packaged foods and drinks. These could include warnings such as high sugar, high salt, high fat, and highly sweetened beverages.
