Preliminary investigations revealed that a motorcycle got stuck under the bus, causing a petrol leak and starting the fire. The accident occurred around 3 a.m. when most passengers were fast asleep. Eyewitnesses said the fire spread so rapidly that the bus was completely engulfed in flames within minutes. District Collector A. Siri stated that there were 41 passengers on board, including two drivers. Twenty-one of them managed to escape and escape, while twenty others died.
