23-year-old Test cricket record broken, West Indies create history; series win against Sri Lanka

West Indies broke a 23-year-old record by winning the Test series against Sri Lanka 1-0. The team achieved this feat by drawing the second Test.

West Indies vs Sri Lanka Test: The West Indies played the second Test against Sri Lanka and ended in a draw. With this draw, the Caribbean team won the series 1-0, having won the first Test by an innings and 217 runs. With this, the West Indies achieved their first Test series win against Sri Lanka after a long wait of 23 years.

The team's previous series win against an Asian team came in 2003. Back then, the West Indies won the two-match series 1-0. Now, history has repeated itself, breaking a 23-year-old record.

First win in the Test Championship cycle

After playing 10 matches, the West Indies secured their first win in the World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle. The team is now ranked 8th. They won 1 of their 10 matches and lost 7. The remaining 2 ended in draws, giving them a win percentage of 16.67. Pakistan is at the bottom at 9th. They have won just 1 of their 4 matches and lost the remaining 3. Their win percentage is 8.33.

First Test: The first Test between Sri Lanka and the West Indies was played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. Sri Lanka, batting first, were all out for 308. In reply, the West Indies declared their innings at 626 for 9. Sri Lanka, batting second, were bowled out for just 101. Aamir Jangoo led the West Indies in the match, scoring 233 runs, for which he was named Player of the Match.

Second Test: The second Test was also played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. Batting first, Sri Lanka declared their innings at 549 for 9. In reply, the West Indies were all out for 499 in their first innings. Sri Lanka then declared their second innings at 251 for 9. In reply, the West Indies managed only 109 for 9, resulting in a draw.
