Kumkum Mohod won gold.
17-year-old Kumkum Mohod has won India's 17th gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games. She won the women's recurve singles archery event. In the final, Kumkum defeated Yejin Oh of South Korea in a shoot-off. The two players were tied 5-5 after five sets, but the South Korean player made a mistake in the shoot-off.
The match was very exciting, as Kumkum lost the first set 27-29. It's not easy to come back from a deficit, especially when South Korea dominates archery. However, Kumkum held her nerve and drew the second set 29-29, but the Indian team still trailed 1-3 in overall points.
A strong comeback in the third set
Kumkum shot three perfect 10s in the third set, finishing with a 30, while Yejin shot a 29. The match was tied at 3-3. In the fourth set, Kumkum made a mistake and lost 27-28, but the match wasn't over. The game now focused on the fifth set, where the Indian player shot a perfect 30 and won the set.
Both players were tied 5-5, so a shoot-off was resorted to for the gold medal. South Korea's Yejin Oh made a mistake in the shoot-off, scoring an 8. Even if Kumkum had scored a 10 or 9, she would still have won the gold medal. It should be noted that the player who hits closest to the midpoint in the shoot-off is declared the winner.
