From playing games to receiving updates from around the world, from posting on social media to making calls, smartphones are used for everything. Many people have to constantly look at their smartphone screens for work. Some people spend 6 to 10 hours staring at their phone screens, which puts strain on their eyes, increases headaches, and weakens their eyesight. However, to combat this problem, you can change some of your smartphone settings. These settings can be beneficial. Let's learn more about them.
Reduce screen brightness in the dark
Screen brightness is very important when using the phone in bright sunlight. Therefore, users increase the screen brightness after going out in the sun. But it is important to change this setting when using the phone in the dark. If you reduce the screen brightness in the dark, your eyes do not get strained. In modern phones, you will get auto-brightness feature, which automatically adjusts the brightness according to the surrounding light. If you get tired of constantly adjusting the brightness in the sun or in the dark, then you can choose the auto brightness option.
Turn on a blue light filter before bed.
Sunlight contains up to 25 percent blue light. This light energizes you and keeps you alert throughout the day. Your phone screen also emits blue light. This light isn't as powerful as sunlight. However, it can interfere with your sleep. Exposure to blue light prevents the brain from releasing the sleep-inducing hormone melatonin. So, if you use your phone close to bedtime, turn on a blue light filter. This will filter out the blue light and help your brain release the sleep-inducing hormone.
Dark mode can also help.
If you use your smartphone in the dark, turn on dark mode. This makes the text white and the background black. This reduces light and eye strain. Another benefit of dark mode is that it reduces battery consumption and prevents the battery from draining quickly.
Screen Alert Distance:
Looking too closely at your smartphone screen can cause eye strain. This can also strain children's eyes. Therefore, try to keep your phone as far away from your eyes as possible. The iPhone has a feature called "Screen Distance." This feature will alert you if you hold your phone less than 12 inches from your eyes.
