Will Gautam Gambhir be relieved as coach after the T20 World Cup? BCCI has clarified.

BCCI on Gautam Gambhir: Following Team India's performance in the Test, many criticized head coach Gautam Gambhir and called for his removal from the coaching position. Find out what a BCCI official said on this matter.

After Gautam Gambhir became coach, the Indian cricket team experienced unprecedented events: a home Test whitewash by New Zealand, the lowest home Test score (46), the biggest Test defeat (408 runs), and the first ODI series loss to Sri Lanka in 27 years. Although India created history under Gambhir's coaching, winning the Asia Cup and Champions Trophy, critics targeted Gambhir after each defeat. Some demanded his removal as coach, while others suggested a replacement coach for the Test team. Some reports suggested Gambhir's future would be considered after the 2026 T20 World Cup. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia categorically dismissed these rumors.

In an interview with Sportstar, Devjit Saikia, on Gautam Gambhir's criticism, said that people have every right to express their opinions. But the BCCI has competent people to make decisions on these matters. He said, "In this country of 1.4 billion people, everyone considers themselves a cricket expert. Everyone will have their own opinions. This is a democratic country, where no one can be silenced. Everyone, including the media, is free to express their opinions. From former cricketers to social media, there is speculation everywhere."

The BCCI secretary further said, "The truth is that the board has a dedicated cricket committee, which includes former cricketers. They are the ones who make the decisions. For selection, we have five selectors who are eligible for it. Any final decision is taken by these committees and selectors only."

In an interview, former cricketer Manoj Tiwary made a significant comment on Gautam Gambhir's coaching future. He stated that if the Indian team fails to win the T20 World Cup in 2026, the board should make the difficult decision of removing the coach.

The 2027 T20 World Cup will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, starting February 7. A total of 20 teams are participating, divided into four groups of five each.
