As the southwest monsoon continues its progress across India, relief from the intense summer heat is expected in many parts of the country. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rain and thunderstorm alerts for multiple states, warning of heavy rainfall, strong winds, and changing weather conditions over the next few days.
Several regions, including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh, are likely to witness rainfall activity accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. The changing weather pattern comes as the monsoon gradually moves toward major cities such as Delhi and Mumbai.
Delhi-NCR Likely to Receive Rainfall Over the Next Three Days
Residents of Delhi and the National Capital Region may experience a welcome break from hot and humid conditions. According to weather forecasts, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected over the next three days.
Cloudy skies and intermittent showers could help bring down daytime temperatures while improving overall comfort levels. The rainfall is also expected to enhance air quality in parts of the region.
Uttar Pradesh Under Rain and Thunderstorm Alert
While temperatures in several parts of Uttar Pradesh may continue to touch around 40 degrees Celsius, weather conditions are expected to become increasingly unstable.
The IMD has warned of heavy rainfall in multiple districts, including Barabanki, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Agra, Jhansi, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Gorakhpur, Meerut, Lalitpur, Firozabad, Rampur, Sitapur, Shahjahanpur, Pilibhit, and Deoria.
Authorities have advised residents to stay updated on local weather advisories, particularly in areas vulnerable to waterlogging and strong winds.
Bihar Braces for Storms and High-Speed Winds
Bihar is also expected to witness significant weather activity. Forecasts indicate thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in several districts, including Siwan, Purnia, Darbhanga, and West Champaran.
Meteorologists have warned that wind speeds could reach between 70 and 80 kilometers per hour in some locations, increasing the risk of falling trees, power disruptions, and travel difficulties.
Residents are being urged to exercise caution during periods of severe weather.
Dust Storm and Rainfall Warning Issued for Rajasthan
Parts of Rajasthan may once again experience dust storms along with rainfall activity. The weather department has issued alerts for several divisions, including Bikaner, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Kota, and Jodhpur.
Strong winds, dust-laden conditions, and scattered showers are likely to affect these regions. Such weather events are common during the transition period between intense summer heat and the arrival of the monsoon.
Temperature Outlook Across Major Indian Cities
The following table shows the expected temperatures for June 18:
| City | Maximum Temperature | Minimum Temperature |
|---|---|---|
| Delhi | 39°C | 31°C |
| Mumbai | 33°C | 29°C |
| Chennai | 36°C | 28°C |
| Kolkata | 36°C | 29°C |
| Lucknow | 40°C | 31°C |
| Patna | 39°C | 30°C |
| Ranchi | 35°C | 26°C |
| Bhopal | 34°C | 26°C |
| Jaipur | 38°C | 28°C |
| Shimla | 27°C | 19°C |
| Nainital | 28°C | 22°C |
These temperatures indicate that while heat remains a concern in many northern and central regions, rainfall could gradually bring relief over the coming days.
Hill States Also Expected to Witness Unsettled Weather
The impact of the changing weather pattern is not limited to the plains. Mountainous regions are also expected to receive rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.
In Uttarakhand, weather alerts have been issued for Nainital, Almora, Bageshwar, Champawat, Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Rudraprayag. Rainfall in these areas could affect travel conditions and increase the possibility of localized landslides in vulnerable zones.
Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh is likely to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms in districts such as Kullu, Solan, Bilaspur, Lahaul-Spiti, Kangra, and Mandi. Tourists and local residents have been advised to remain alert and follow weather updates issued by authorities.
Monsoon Activity Set to Intensify
With the monsoon advancing further into northern and western India, weather experts expect rainfall activity to intensify across several regions in the coming days. While the showers will provide much-needed relief from scorching temperatures, they may also bring localized disruptions, including traffic congestion, waterlogging, and strong winds.
Residents across affected states are encouraged to monitor official weather advisories and take necessary precautions during periods of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
