UPI Update: Good news for UPI users! UPI payments can be made even without internet; learn about these features

Nowadays, everything is done digitally. From school fees to vegetable vendors, everyone uses UPI payments. Therefore, people don't carry much cash with them. Therefore, a very important piece of information has emerged for those making online UPI payments. This allows you to easily make payments without using the internet.

To make payments easier and faster, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is soon launching a new tap-to-pay feature. This feature eliminates the need for internet access to make payments.

According to reports, this feature will utilize NFC (Near Field Communication) technology. Users will first need to load money into their UPI Lite wallet when they have internet access on their mobile. After that, even without internet, they can make payments up to ₹2,000 by tapping on an NFC-mobile PoS machine. This transaction will not require entering a UPI PIN.

Additionally, this feature will be extremely beneficial for air travel, metro networks, villages, or locations with limited or no internet connection. The PoS machine will store payment information during the transaction and send it for verification when internet is available. To offer this feature, PoS terminal manufacturers must obtain certification from the NPCI. Banks and UPI apps like Google Pay, Phone Pay, and BHIM are also working to add this feature to their apps.
