Inflation is breaking records in the country, and sugar prices have reached record levels. The ex-factory price of M-grade sugar from Uttar Pradesh reached Rs 5,400 per quintal on Tuesday. A five percent GST is applicable on this sugar. This price increase is likely to continue in the coming days.
According to media reports, rising
sugar prices have exacerbated the central government's difficulties. Sugar, which was available to consumers at the retail market for ₹45 per kg a month ago, has now reached a high of ₹65.
This is clearly affecting sugar prices in the domestic market. Ex-factory sugar prices in Maharashtra have reached approximately ₹5,300 per quintal. After adding GST, the price reaches ₹5,550-₹5,600 per quintal. The impact of this increase in ex-factory sugar prices is also being felt in wholesale prices. In Delhi, the wholesale price of sugar has reached approximately ₹5,800 per quintal. These increased prices will soon impact the retail market, where prices have already reached ₹62-₹65 per kg.
