Rohit Sharma to Lead Test Charge in England, Karun Nair and Rajat Patidar Set for Comeback

Despite heavy criticism following back-to-back Test series defeats — including a 3-1 loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy — Rohit Sharma has retained the BCCI’s trust and is all set to lead Team India on the challenging England tour in June 2025.

✅ Rohit’s Captaincy Intact

According to a Times of India report, Rohit will be part of India’s tour to England and could travel with the India A team prior to the 5-match Test series. This series also marks the start of a new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. Speculation over his Test future intensified after his form dipped and India lost key series under his leadership. But a recent Champions Trophy win has helped solidify his role, and the selectors want an experienced captain for English conditions.

🔁 Two Big Comebacks: Karun Nair & Rajat Patidar

India’s ongoing middle-order issues have pushed selectors to consider two long-ignored names:

  • Karun Nair – the triple-centurion from 2016 who’s been out of favor for years.
  • Rajat Patidar – a consistent domestic performer who could shore up the No. 5/6 slot.

Both are expected to feature in India A's matches before the main Test series and could earn a place in the senior squad based on performance.

❌ No Place for Iyer, Sarfaraz, or Axar

In a surprise move, Shreyas Iyer, despite holding a central contract, has not been shortlisted. The BCCI also appears hesitant about Sarfaraz Khan, once considered a strong contender for the middle order. Axar Patel, often seen as a backup for Jadeja, hasn't been finalized either.

⚠️ Tough Road Ahead

The tour of England will be a true test of resilience, especially with India trying to rebuild after recent failures. With Rohit still at the helm and fresh faces like Nair and Patidar in the mix, it’s clear the BCCI is balancing experience with fresh opportunities.
