Robots will be used for help
Musk stated that SpaceX's satellites can be viewed as robots, completely autonomous and requiring no service. Musk stated that the Moon-based robots would help SpaceX build a mass accelerator, allowing SpaceX to launch cargo from the Moon without using rockets. Robots could also be helpful in this task and in building factories, which would operate on solar and radiation-based energy. However, Musk also admitted that this idea is completely crazy at present. SpaceX has also talked about using humanoid robots for basic infrastructure work, equipment repair, and resource processing on the Moon, but the company has not announced any timeline or investment for this. It is also not yet clear whether Tesla's Optimus robot will be used for this task or whether the company will develop a separate robot for this purpose in the future.
Can a factory be built on the moon?

Patrick Suermann, a professor of construction science at Texas A&M University, responded that the idea isn't ridiculous. Building a satellite factory on the moon is economically viable because the moon's gravity would make launching satellites from there much cheaper than from Earth. He added that this is a wise decision, as fuel is the largest cost of satellite launches. It would be significant if they could achieve productivity on the moon comparable to Earth. However, transporting resources to build a factory on the moon would also be very expensive.

Musk has previously talked about building a data center in space. SpaceX has partnered with Nvidia to achieve this. Under the agreement, the two companies are developing the Starmind AI-1 project, which will serve as a satellite data center. These satellites will begin launching next year. Each launch will see SpaceX rockets carrying 3-50 satellites. SpaceX will utilize Nvidia's latest Rubin GPUs and Vera CPUs for this project, which will bring the company's peak satellite computing capacity to 250 kW.

SpaceX and Nvidia's StarMind project has been in the works for several months. In January, SpaceX requested permission from the US Federal Communications Commission (USFCC) to build a network of 1 million AI satellites. Under this project, the company aims to create a massive computing network in outer space. These satellites will be equipped with powerful processors, powered by solar energy. Each satellite will be approximately 79 meters wide and will be able to provide 120-150 kW of computing power.
