All 10 teams have begun preparations for IPL 2027. The auction for the upcoming season will take place in Goa on December 16th, but before that, all franchises must release their list of released and retained players by November 15th. Mumbai Indians have made a major and surprising decision. They have released three veteran coaching staff members, including Lasith Malinga.

Mumbai Indians announced on Thursday, October 29, that bowling coach Lasith Malinga, Paras Mhambrey, and fielding coach Carl Hopkinson are no longer part of the team. The five-time IPL champions have reshuffled their entire coaching staff ahead of the next season. Head coach Mahela Jayawardene has been replaced by Kieron Pollard.

Mumbai Indians issued a statement saying, "Mumbai Indians announce that Lasith Malinga, Paras Mhambé and Carl Hopkinson are no longer part of the men's team coaching staff. We thank them all for their contribution, service and commitment to the team."

Former Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga has been a part of the Mumbai Indians for a long time. He first played for Mumbai as a player for many years, and then joined the coaching team after retirement. Mumbai Indians said, "Lasith Malinga has been an integral part of the Mumbai Indians family. From leading Mumbai's bowling attack to winning four IPL titles and the 2011 Champions League T20, and then returning as a mentor and coach, Lasith's journey with Mumbai Indians has been special."

Paras Mhambrey joined the Mumbai Indians team in October 2024. Hopkinson, the former England and Ireland fielding coach, became the Mumbai team's fielding coach ahead of the 2025 IPL.
