Is the bank open today? Check the RBI holiday list before heading to the branch.

The festive season is underway across the country, bringing a number of holidays. In such a scenario, bank customers should be aware of which days banks are open and which days they are closed.

If you are planning to visit a bank today to get some important work done, it is essential to first verify whether banks are actually open in your city or state. While the festive season involves many holidays, banks across the country are closed simultaneously only on a few specific occasions. Other holidays depend on festivals and regional events celebrated in individual states.

For instance, banks in Himachal Pradesh were closed yesterday, October 29, on the occasion of Karwa Chauth. The Uttarakhand government also declared a public holiday for female employees on October 29 for the same festival. Given this, it is advisable to check the holiday schedule before leaving home for any banking-related tasks, ensuring you don’t waste time by visiting a branch that happens to be closed.

Are banks open or closed today?

According to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) official holiday calendar, there are no bank holidays anywhere in the country today, October 30, 2026 (Friday). All public sector, private, and rural banks across all states and cities will remain fully operational, functioning as they would on any regular day.

Following the Karwa Chauth holiday in Himachal Pradesh on October 29, the next scheduled closure will be on October 31, when banks in Gujarat will remain closed to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Meanwhile, bank customers should also take note of upcoming holidays in November, as various festivals and regional events may affect the operations of bank branches in different states. These holidays include Diwali, Ningol Chakkouba, the Wangala Festival, Chhath Puja, Igas-Bagwal, Seng Kut Snem, Guru Nanak Jayanti, and Kanakadasa Jayanti.

Bank customers should check the holiday list specific to their region, as bank closures depend on local festivals or specific regional occasions. In addition to festivals, according to the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday schedule, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturday of every month.

Make use of digital services

A bank holiday does not mean that customers cannot access banking services. Tasks ranging from fund transfers and bill payments to account management can be easily handled from home using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), internet banking, and mobile banking applications. ATMs are also available for cash withdrawals. However, for transactions such as depositing large sums, processing cheques, obtaining demand drafts, or other branch-related tasks, you will need to wait until the bank reopens.
