Sri Lanka's religious and cultural ties with India also extend far beyond its borders. This is why there are many religious sites here that are linked to Indian traditions and legends. One of these sacred sites is the Bhakta Hanuman Temple Ramboda, a serene and beautiful temple nestled amidst the mountains. This temple is not only a center of religious faith but has also become a special destination for nature lovers and travelers.
Simple architecture and stunning natural scenery
The Bhakta Hanuman Temple's architecture is simple, yet its beauty is unique. The intricate carvings on the temple doors make it special. The natural beauty surrounding the temple adds to its grandeur. From here, you can see vast hills, dense forests, and lush tea plantations. The shimmering lake in the distance and the vibrant colors of the evening sky make this place as beautiful as a painting.
The importance of this place is linked to the Ramayana.
The Ramboda Valley is also mentioned in the ancient Hindu epic Ramayana. It is believed that when Hanuman arrived in Lanka in search of Sita, he first set foot at this spot. It is said that after crossing the ocean to reach Lanka, Hanuman rested here for a while. After this, he continued on his search for Sita.
Sita Amman Temple and Sacred Stream
The Seetha Amman Temple is located just a few kilometers from this temple. It is believed that Sita used to pray daily along the banks of a small stream. Locals claim to have Hanuman's footprints on some rocks near the river. It is said that Hanuman's footprints were left there when he met Sita and gave her Rama's ring.
The name Ramboda also has a special meaning
According to some historians, the name Ramboda is derived from the Tamil word Rampadai, meaning "Rama's army." It is also believed that Lord Rama gathered his army in this area before his battle with Ravana, the king of Lanka.
When was the devotee Hanuman temple built?
Located in Ramboda, this temple is not very ancient. It was constructed in 1999 by the Chinmaya Mission. The temple is located approximately 30 kilometers north of Sri Lanka's famous hill town of Nuwara Eliya. This area is renowned for its vast tea plantations and cool climate. To reach here, travelers can take a train to Nanu Oya Railway Station, and from there, taxis can easily reach the temple.
