Sonam Raja Raghuwanshi: Cases of husband murder are continuously coming to light from many cities of India. Some time ago, the Muskan case of Meerut created a stir in the entire country.
The case of newlywed couple Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam Raghuvanshi from Indore, who went missing during their honeymoon in Shillong, Meghalaya, has taken a new turn. Meghalaya police have revealed that Sonam got her husband Raja killed and after that she went missing. Currently, Sonam has been arrested from a dhaba in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. In such a situation, the question arises that if a woman does not like her husband, then why does she not refuse before marriage? Why is she choosing the option of murder instead? Let's know what psychiatrists say in this case.
What is the whole matter?
Raja Raghuvanshi, who lives in Indore, was married to Sonam on 11 May 2025. Both went to Shillong for honeymoon on 20 May. When their phones went off on 23 May, the family members suspected something untoward. When the police started investigating, Raja Raghuvanshi's body was found in a rotten condition at the foot of a hill in Shillong on 2 June 2025. He was identified by the tattoo of 'Raja' written on his hand. Initially, Sonam was considered missing and the possibility of kidnapping was raised. After investigation, the Meghalaya Police said that Sonam herself got her husband killed. Now on 9 June 2025, Sonam was arrested from a dhaba in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh.
Cases are continuously coming up in India
Cases of husband murder are continuously coming to light from many cities of India. Some time ago, the Muskan case of Meerut created a stir in the whole country. Here, a woman named Muskan, along with her lover Sahil, killed her husband Saurabh. They chopped his body into pieces and stuffed it in a drum. After this, a woman named Pragati in Auraiya, Uttar Pradesh, got her husband Dilip killed just 15 days after marriage. Apart from this, a woman in Shahjahanpur killed her husband after getting fed up with domestic violence, while in Ghazipur a woman mixed poison in her husband's food. On the other hand, in Madhya Pradesh, 65-year-old professor Mamta Pathak killed her doctor husband by electrocuting him.
Psychiatrists explained the reason behind violence
Psychiatrist Dr. Rajni Sharma, who is doing research on marital stress and mental health, said that such incidents are not just the result of a person's mental state. Social, psychological and legal reasons are also completely responsible for this. She said, 'When a woman is dissatisfied with her husband, she often suppresses her feelings due to social pressure and expectations. This pressure can turn into anger and frustration over time, which turns into violent behavior when it reaches its peak.'
These reasons are also responsible for violence
According to Dr. Rajni, divorce is seen as a social stigma in Indian society. In the case of Sonam Raghuvanshi, the question being asked on social media is that if she did not like the boy, why did she get married? This question reveals social pressure, where women agree to marriage due to the expectations of family and society. According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5), more than 30 percent of women in 14 states consider husband's beating as justified, which shows the depth of social beliefs. This mentality prevents women from expressing their feelings, due to which suppressed anger can take a violent form.
It is important to focus on these things as well
According to Dr. Rajni, mental health services in India are very limited. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are only 0.3 psychiatrists per one lakh people in India. Women suffering from marital stress rarely get the opportunity to resort to counseling or therapy. If women in cases like Sonam's had a safe platform to express their feelings, perhaps such incidents could have been avoided. She said that women who face violence for a long time may have problems like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or depression. In such a situation, they can take violent steps in anger. However, in the case of Sonam Raghuvanshi, it is not clear whether she was a victim of domestic violence? It is clear that marital dissatisfaction pushed her to this extreme step.
