"I still can't believe it..." Will Trump annex Greenland after military action? Italian PM Meloni responds.

Trump has floated the idea of purchasing Greenland from Denmark since his first term. Following the military action in Venezuela, he reiterated his demand for annexation, citing strategic reasons.

US President Donald Trump wants to annex Greenland at any cost. He stated that the US will acquire Greenland, whether European countries agree or not. Trump further stated that if the US does not do so, Russia or China could expand their influence there, and that the US will not allow Russia or China to become our neighbors. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has reacted to Trump's new policy regarding Greenland.

Meloni said he did not believe the US would resort to military force to seize control of Greenland and urged a stronger NATO role in the Arctic region to address US security concerns.

Military action in Greenland is in no one's interest: Meloni

According to the AP, Meloni said that using military action in Greenland would not be in anyone's interest and would have serious consequences for NATO. "I still don't believe that the US would launch a military operation to gain control of Greenland," he said. He stressed that Italy would not support such a move.

The White House said on Tuesday that the US administration was considering "options" that could include military action to regain control of the strategically important and mineral-rich island, which is part of NATO ally Denmark.

What did Georgia Meloni say about Trump's threat to annex Greenland?

"I think the Trump administration, in its somewhat aggressive ways, is primarily focusing on the strategic importance of Greenland and the Arctic region for its own security. This is an area where many foreign powers are active, and I believe the US message is that it will not accept any actions by foreign powers," Meloni said.

Meloni is among the leaders close to the US President.

The Italian prime minister stressed that a stronger NATO presence in the region would help allay US concerns about rival forces gaining influence in the region. Meloni is considered one of President Donald Trump's closest allies in Europe, trying to act as a mediator between the often conflicting interests of the US and the European Union.
